I took a little blog break over Easter – not exactly planned, but we have had a busy few weeks here! The end of term craziness merged into Easter preparations, lots of baking and crafting, and of course a little chocolate eating!
Just before Easter we visited Basildon Park, otherwise known as a filming location for Downton Abbey (I’ve never seen it, I must be the only person in the country who hasn’t!). The spring flowers were out in the beautiful grounds, and Mia and Joe loved running through the woodland nature trail. I have put together a little photo diary of our visit…
We also visited inside the house, which has some real treasures of its own, including the kitchen in perfect 1950s style, with a whole cupboard of vintage jelly moulds!
And a shell room…I definitely need one of these at home! Lovely low glowy lighting and museum style shelves filled with ornate shells from all over the world.
Oh, and the books in the library! These are only some of them, in their rich jewel-toned covers they just looked so tempting. I would loved to have climed the special little library ladder to choose one and then nestle down on one of the comfy library chairs for a few hours.
I am really enjoying our winter-spring walks at the moment, often at these lovely old National Trust properties. We are lucky enough to live within an hours drive of so many. They are the perfect balance of plenty of outdoors space to explore, beautifully planted gardens, and more often than not, a tea room too, to end the day with cake!
