A Styling Evening At Olivia May, Oxford

I was recently invited to a styling event at Olivia May boutique with a group of local Oxfordshire bloggers. Olivia May is located on Oxford’s Little Clarendon Street and stocks a range of women’s clothing and accessories by a fantastic range of designers. Ann, the store owner, and her lovely team made us feel very welcome and at ease and I could entirely understand the personalised stylist-led approach which she offers to the store’s clients.

Ann introduced us to the new season ranges and colours and seemed incredibly knowledgable about the brands stocked. She was joined by stylist LisaB, who gave an enjoyable talk on dressing for your shape. As a traditional pear shape, it seemed I had at least had made a good choice by wearing a large necklace to add some balance to my silhouette! Lisa shared so much interesting information about balancing an outfit with the right choice of jewellery or bag for your shape. She was also a total scarf-tying expert, and we all had great fun trying to recreate the styles…perhaps I should start wearing some of those scarves that always get left in the cupboard.

Lisa also spoke about colour analysis, a concept I had not really considered before. Personal colour analysis determines the colors that best suit an individual based on their natural colorings. I love a really wide range of colours, and wear lots of brights, but would definitely consider a professional colour analysis sometime in the future, as perhaps there are great colour combinations I am missing in my wardrobe!

A really great evening, at such a unique independent store, discovering a local business, whilst connecting with Oxfordshire bloggers.

Hi Laura, it was lovely to meet you the other night. I’m obviously one who needs to actually start buying and wearing necklaces more frequently! Although I know quite a bit about shapes thanks to watching a lot of Trinny & Susannah programmes when I was younger.

It was great to meet you too Emma! I used to love the Trinny & Susannah programmes so much. Thinking about it they may be partly to blame for my love of massive necklaces! x

You looked very glamorous – not sure you needed much style advice 🙂

Ah, thank you Milla! That is very kind of you 🙂 It’s always nice having an excuse to dress up a little, it certainly makes a change from the everyday mama-uniform of jeans and jumpers! x

I shall be thinking about you and your necklace every time I purchase one in the future. I need to have the confidence to buy and wear bigger! It was lovely to meet you and I think a colour analysis evening would be perfect for a group get together.

It was great to meet you too Mary. Wouldn’t a colour analysis evening be fun?! I would love to know which colours I should be wearing, rather than my usual bit of everything approach…and a big necklace, of course! 😉
