It is officially panto season, and on Sunday we were lucky enough to get tickets for Into The Woods at the Global Retreat Centre, Nuneham Courtenay, just outside Oxford. The event is hosted by staff and volunteers at the Retreat Centre, as an event for the local community.
It was so popular that the performance had actually overbooked, and all the children got to sit right by the stage. Needless to say, Mia was right at the very front!
The set design was amazing, especially for a panto on such a relatively small scale. I loved the tree cut outs, and the giant fairy tale books. There was just a good hint of sparkle!
At the end of the performance, the characters all gathered on the stage and danced along to Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ whilst throwing balloons into the audience…so much more fun than a traditional encore!
The Retreat Centre itself is a lovely old building, and had been decorated beautifully for the festive season. There were several twinkling wish trees, where anyone could add their hopes for the coming year.
I’m not sure what Mia’s wish was, but she certainly took it very seriously, and gave it plenty of thought.
We both left the panto with a very Christmassy glow; it was the perfect way to start the holidays, and a much needed interlude to the pre-Christmas craziness.
