I love the English strawberry season; I think it has to be my favourite time of year. Last weekend we visited a local pick your own at Rectory Farm. It is so difficult to stop picking the strawberries once you start. The tastiest ones are always the tiny, really dark red berries; the kind you cannot buy in the supermarkets. We must have picked about three kilos and have spent the rest of the week eating them. Most were served just plain and as they are, but I did make some into the most delicious Eton Mess (none of Nigella’s messing around with pomegranate juice though, just strawberries, meringue and cream).
