Pitt Rivers & the Museum of Natural History
The Pitt Rivers Museum is one of Oxford’s real gems, and one of the few places that seems to be visited by locals and tourists in equal measure.
I remember visiting the museum as a child and simultaneoulsy loving it and being terrified of some of the exhibits. The totem poles especially used to frighten me! The museum includes collections of so many different kinds of objects; as well as the one remaining totem pole there are shrunked heads, weaponry, boats, masks, costumes and jewelery.
The Pitt Rivers is linked to the Museum of Natural History, home to pretty impressive dinosaur skeletons. I have always liked the skeletons of the sea-based dinosaurs which are suspended from the ceiling.
