I have recently been inspired by posts by Hannah at Seeds and Stitches and The Farmer’s Nest to have a go at making my own cleaning supplies.
So far, I have had great success with homemade laundry powder and the DIY liquid soap. I love that making your own means you know exacty what’s in the products you are using.
You also get to choose the scents; for the laundry powder I added lavender essential oil, and my washing smells lovely. For the liquid soap I chose a rose soap and a vanilla bean soap. The combination works really well, and it makes so much soap it will last for ages.
I took a few photos of the laundry powder making…
I have to confess to buying an old fashioned label-maker, to label-up all my lovely new cleaning products! At risk of sounding like a 1950s housewife, I have a cleaning cupboard to be proud of!

Do you have a laundry powder making recipe? I’d love to try it!

Hi Pre, the recipe I used is really simple:
2 bars of pure olive oil soap
1 1/4 cups borax
1 1/4 cups washing soda
2 1/4 cups of bicarbonate of soda
30 drops of lavender essential oil
I grated the soap, then mixed it into the other dry ingredients, then added the essential oil. I add about 2-3 small spoonfuls to each wash. I’d love to hear how you get on if you try it out! Laura x
